Herman Mutaawe returned 142 gross over 36 holes to win the professionals category of the Barclays Corporate Golf Open at Kitante on Tuesday.
Consequently he will claim the biggest share of the sh7m prize money ahead of another 36 holes competition in the Hima Cement Captain's prize tournament that ends on Thursday.
Mutaawe was two strokes better than professional rookie Happy Robert who has so far made the cut in two consecutive tournaments since qualifying to play in the paid ranks during last year's Uganda Open.
Other rookies Ronnie Bukenya and Gerald Kabuye were also good for the money after carding 146 and 147 respectively.
Meanwhile Deo Akope could be on his way to winning his second professional event of the year after taking a four stroke lead after the first round of the Captain's prize tournament on Wednesday.
Akope who won the Lady Captain's prize tournament last week, shot an opening round 68 and is ahead of George Olayo who played par 72.
Fred Wanzala and Silver Opio also returned 72 with Hussein Bagalana (73 gross), Herman Mutaawe (74), Gideon Kagyenzi and Lawrence Muhenda also gunning for a share of the sh10m prize money.
The final round is on Thursday ahead of the amateur event of the same tournament that closes captain Henry Rugamba's two-year term on Saturday.
