Rainbow girls dominated play but failed to score until late in the second half

Rainbow International School beat British International School of Cairo 1-0 to emerge as the 2016 Council of British International Schools (COBIS) Games champions in in Dubai over the weekend.

In a tense match played in extreme heat, the Rainbow girls dominated play but failed to score until late in the second half when Aliakai Onabikoa scored from a free kick.

The victory handed Rainbow an unbeaten run in the entire tournament and coach Mildred Gamba lauded the school administration for supporting girls' football.

"Girls football at Rainbow has been on the rise over the past couple of years and this victory at an international level shows how far we have come. The girls have made us proud," Gamba stated.

The COBIS Games are an annual event that attracts international schools from all over the world offering a British education. This was Rainbow's third successive year of participation and once again they were the only school from East Africa at the Games.
