Ambassador Sophie Makame says the French Embassy wants to empower Ugandan women.

A group of women in Namuwongo, have more reason to think prosperity, now that they have been boosted with a donation of two brick-laying machines by the French Embassy in Uganda.

The machines were handed to the executive director of their umbrella organization, Shelter and Settlements Alternatives: Uganda Human Settlements Alternatives ((SSA: UHSNET), by the French Ambassador to Uganda, Sophie Makame.

This happened at the organisation's offices in Namuwongo, a city suburb.

Ambassador Makame was accompanied by the embassy's head of co-operation Pierre Andriamampianina.

She said that in partnership with SSA-UHSNET, the French Embassy wanted to contribute to the Ugandan women in their efforts to improve their status individually and in their communities.

Ambassador Makame is pictured here helped over a stream by the board chairman of SSA:UHSNET during a tour of one of the projects funded by the French EMbassy in Uganda

"I do believe that you will wisely use these tools to continue to work in favour of improving the livelihoods in Namuwongo and make your dreams become a reality.  Others will need your experience and advice so I count on you to spread the news and support your neighbours to build more community toilets and waste collectors, and over all, to help other women to feel and be a power for change," Makame told the group.
