Ssemujju case deferred over missing police file

The Nakawa Chief Magistrate's Court has adjourned the hearing of the case in which Kyadondo East MP Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda is charged with disobeying lawful orders and intentions to participate in unauthorized political assembly.

This was after state attorney Doreen Elima informed court on Wednesday presided over by the Nakawa Chief Magistrate Joyce Kavuma that there was no police file in court and investigations in the matter were still ongoing.

This prompted the trial Magistrate to adjourn the case to April 4 for hearing.

It is alleged that Ssemujju on October 15, 2015 defied orders by Regional Police Commander (RPC) Siraje Bakaleke to stay home under preventive arrest contrary to Section 117 of the Penal Code Act.

He had allegedly announced that he and former Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) presidential candidate Kizza Besigye were scheduled to open the party office in Kira Municipality in Wakiso district before proceeding to other party meetings in Mukono, Jinja and Iganga district without clearance from police.

Ssemujju, the former Kyadondo East MP and FDC spokesperson is currently on bail of sh500,000.

Neither Ssemujju, his lawyer Erias Lukwago nor his sureties were present in court.
