FSD Uganda (FSDU) is an independent, not for Profit Company. We support innovation, conduct research and help improve policy and regulation. Our objective is a deeper, broader and more inclusive financial sector in Uganda. Our aim is to improve the livelihoods of Uganda's low-income households through a market development approach.

Position Overview:

FSD Uganda is seeking a communications professional to employ as a Communications Specialist / Communication Expert to lead the FSD Uganda team in the implementation of an effective communication strategy that supports the delivery of FSD Uganda objectives.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

1. To support the implementation of FSD Uganda's strategic & Operational through the development and implementation of a sound Communication Strategy

2. Lead the implementation of an influencing and communications plan that has impact on influencing key stakeholder mindset and is effective in influencing change within the industry/sector.

3. Lead the building of relationships with media houses and with key stakeholders, partners and FSD Uganda community players

4. Ensure existence of an exciting and informative online presence through highly available website and social media platform to strengthen FSD Uganda's visibility, presence (awareness) and positioning for opportunities.

5. Lead and manage the Communications team, including consultants, to perform and delivery expected objectives and meet agreed KPI's.

Person specifications

Essential

1. Exceptional written communication skills, including the ability to write copy for a range of audiences and formats based on complex, technical content e.g. press releases, blogs, articles, scripts and website content.

2. Excellent verbal communication, including the ability to ‘sell in' stories and ‘cold-call' journalists.

3. Meticulous attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.

4. The ability to work under pressure with minimal supervision to prioritize a busy workload. Personal self-confidence.

5. Experience of and desire to work as part of a team.

6. Critical thinking, inquisitive and innovative mindset.

7. Excellent interpersonal skills; the ability to deal with people at all levels, internally and externally, in a confident, assertive

and professional manner.

8. Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to organize and assist with events.

9. Capable multi-tasking and understanding of logistical requirements.

10. A deadline driven personality.

11. Self-reflection, a willingness to engage in regular personal evaluation and a desire for professional development.

13. Excellent IT skills (Microsoft Office and CMS skills essential).

Highly Desirable:

1. Knowledge of Ugandan financial market, government regulatory environment, policy or political context.

2. Experience of media relations and networking with journalists in Uganda.

3. Experience using project management skills.

4. Experience of commissioning consultants, freelancers, agencies and other external service providers.

Desirable:

1. Graphic design and desktop publishing skills (including Microsoft Publisher, the Adobe or Corel suites).

2. Experience of using social media channels (such Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and Google+) and extending their reach.

3. Experience of creating and editing digital media and publishing it in a variety of outputs (Storify, Prezi, Slideshare, YouTube).

4. Ability to use a still & video camera and to edit video quickly and to a professional standard (using Adobe Premier Elements).

5. Experience of using Mailchimp, Salesforce, Pure360 or other email distribution systems.

6. Experience using a contact database.

7. Experience of using website CMS.

8. Experience working with technical experts or academic researchers.

9. Experience working with development practitioners.
