Live televising of the debate to is meant to give the candidates more audience and to give the outside community an idea on the guild presidential situation

We recently witnessed the first ever live televised presidential debate in Uganda; following in those footsteps is Makerere University by planning to broadcast their debate live on Urban Television next week for the first time ever.

"We are soon broadcasting a live presidential debate on Urban Television and all candidates are ready for it" said Ndawula Roy the chairman electoral commission.

He added that the live televising of the debate to is meant to give the candidates more audience and to give the outside community an idea on the guild presidential situation at the country's biggest university.

This comes as the twelve chosen candidates are vigorously campaigning at every opportunity they get.

The campaigns are held daily from 4:00pm to 6:45pm. And the candidates are to strictly follow the campaign rules that all the candidates signed in the contract with the university's electoral commission.

Security at the university has been tightened because of the campaigns and to prepare for any mayhem that might occur.

"We are working together with the police to make sure there is no violence during the campaigns" Ndawula said.

He also added that the commission is also involving the students in keeping law and order. A group of student will be in charge of security and they will be given tags in order to be identified.
