Feb 28, 2016

The army has made fresh deployments in the most affected areas in Katakwi.

Security has been beefed up along the Teso-Karamoja border following the increasing animal raids by Karimojong cattle rustlers in the Teso sub-region.

Information from the army indicates that over 30 head of cattle were stolen from Katakwi district by suspected Karimojong rustlers, with the theft cases shooting up towards and during the recent parliamentary and presidential elections.

Of these 30 stolen animals, the army says only 11 have been recovered so far but the rest are being pursued by government forces in Karamoja.

The UPDF Sector Commander for Katakwi and Amuria districts bordering Karamoja says they have made fresh deployments in the most affected areas in Katakwi after receiving over 30 new personnel.

Maj. Henry Okwang reveals that they are yet to receive more UPDF personnel who will lay ambushes and carry out patrols in the strategic places in the district.
