Mbarara Chief Magistrate's court has today dismissed the election petition filed by the Rwampara County MP Vincent Mujuni Kyamadidi seeking a recount of the ballots cast in last week's parliamentary elections.
Kyamadidi, who contested on the independent ticket, lost to the NRM flag bearer and former area MP, Charles Ngabirano.
He had dragged the Mbarara district returning officer Dan Kamusiime Ruhemba, Charles Ngabirano - the MP elect and the Electoral Commission to court.
He argued that the Electoral Commission had not been furnished with the declaration forms used to hand Ngabirano the victory. He also argued that his agents had been chased away from polling stations.
Court presided over by Mbarara chief magistrate Miriam Ayo dismissed the application saying Kyamadidi did not have substantial evidence implicating the Mbarara district returning officer and the MP elect.
Talking to journalists shortly after court, Ngabirano called upon Kyamadidi to focus on reconciliation and working together for the development of Rwampara.
Efforts to get comment from Kyamadidi were futile as he sped off in his car following the ruling.
