A solitary strike by Lawrence Ndugga compounded Maroons' misery in the Azam Uganda Premier League as the Luzira based outfits suffered a 1-0 loss to Bright Stars FC in the first game of the second round competition.

Ndugga sent an unstoppable low header to the back of the net in the 25th minute beating goal keeper Jamil Maliyamungu whose defense was caught flat footed.

Maroons best chance in the dying minutes of the game fell to Hudu Mulikyi, who with goal keeper Mathias Kigonya beaten blasted the ball over the bar to dim any hopes of picking up a point.

Bright Stars Coach Fred Kajoba hailed his side for putting up a spirited fight against Maroons at the Champions Stadium in Matugga.

"Before the game I had warned the players not to underrate the visitors and this greatly paid off with a win for us," he emphasized at the end of the game.

But Maroons Head Coach Paddy Kintu remained optimistic his team will put up a decent show and pick up the needed results in the second round of the competition despite the loss.

"The team has greatly improved regardless of the loss. There is improvement in the striking line. We missed three clear chances but that should change in the next games," he explained.

The loss leaves Maroons still rooted at the bottom of the 16 team table with 14 games to go while Bright Stars are 6th in the table standings.
