FDC electoral commission chairman Dan Mugarura insists that Besigye has to pick the forms personally

Security has deployed heavily at the offices of the Electoral Commission following threats by Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Kizza Besigye to pick the election declaration forms.

No private vehicle is allowed to park or pedestrian is allowed to stand in the vicinity. A number of pedestrians were seen walking along the road to where taxis were parked.

Inside the Commission, staff went about with their usual work while outside, police trucks and patrol were on standby in case of any eventuality. Traffic police have also been heavily deployed to direct traffic.

Besigye reportedly wanted copies of the declaration forms to ascertain if they tally with the records obtained by FDC party agents.

Electoral Commission spokesperson, Jotham Taremwa, however said the Commission has already called one of the FDC officials and asked him to come and pick the forms.

“We wanted to give them the forms during the declaration of results in Namboole. However no one was around. I have called one of the officials to come and pick them,” he said.

When contacted the FDC electoral commission chairman Dan Mugarura insisted that Besigye has to pick the forms personally.
