On polling day UCC blocked access to mobile money and social media services as a security measure

Ugandans have breathed a collective sigh of relief after mobile money services were restored following their outage during the election period.

Wendy Angu'Deyo, MTN's corporate communications manager said the mobile money services were back on while social media services remain off.

"We are back on. Mobile money is up and running. We got a go ahead from Uganda Communication Commission last evening (UCC) to resume mobile money services,"Angu'Deyo said.

"We have not yet received a go ahead from Uganda Communication Commission to get back social media services," Angu'Deyo added.

Angu'Deyo noted the move to turn the services off had affected their customers and the company but they would assess the impact of the switch off with time.

On polling day UCC blocked access to mobile money and social media services as a security measure.

Sandor Lyle Walusimbi, the Public Relations Manager of Airtel Uganda said the three day blocking of mobile money transactions had affected the company.

Walusimbi commended government for restoring the services.
