His 15 year run came to an end courtesy of former commissioner in charge of transport regulation in the Ministry of Works and Transport, Eng. Denis Sabiiti who polled 24,106 votes, while Banyenzaki got 18,775, Leonard Twesigye 174, Isaiah Muhumuza 134 and Joseph Ruhangariyo getting only 382.

Banyenzaki's loss follows his decision to contest as an independent candidate after failing to respect a court decision that declared Sabiiti as the National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag-bearer.
