Former VP Gilbert Bukenya faces defeat

Preliminary results from Wakiso district tally centre showed Galabuzi was leading by a margin of 10,000 votes.

Incumbents have continued to suffer setbacks as new entrants take their seats.

One such shock is in Busiro North, Wakiso district where the incumbent member of Parliament (MP) and former vice president, Gilbert Balibaseka Bukenya, was by press time trailing the National Resistance Movement(NRM) flag-bearer, Dennis Ssozi Galabuzi.

Preliminary results from Wakiso district tally centre showed Galabuzi was leading by a margin of 10,000 votes.

The incumbent MP for Busiro East, Medard Lubega Sseggona and Wakiso district MP, Rosemary Senninde, were also leading their contenders in the parliamentary race, according to preliminary results obtained.

In Nansana Municipality, the incumbent mayor of Nansana, Wakayima Musoke Nsereko was still ahead of the NRM flag-bearer, Robert Kasule Ssebunya, while Peter Simon Ssematimba was leading Stephen Ssekigozi, the brother of the incumbent MP, Joseph Balikuddembe, by a margin of 4,000 votes.

Kyadondo East independent candidate Apollo Kantiinti was in early lead, although facing competition from NRM flag-bearer Stella Nanyonga Njuba. Njuba is also the daughter of the late Sam Njuba, FDC's former chairman.

In Kira municipality, FDC spokesman Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda was leading with a big margin. In Makindye Ssabagabo, DP candidate Ssempala Kigozi was ahead of Moses Kirumira Kalungi, Nyombi Nansubuga Sarah and Frank Kyazze (NRM).

Hajjat Sarah Bukirwa, the Wakiso district registrar, asked the candidates, agents and their supporters to remain peaceful, until the final results are announced. She added that voting in the places that missed out on the exercise on Thursday due to some factors, has been completed
