The voting exercise in Kakiri and other polling stations was delayed for seven hours due lack of voting materials.

Residents arrived at their polling centers as early as 6:00am but were surprised to find no one apart from demarcated polling areas.

Despite the delayed delivery of materials, voters braved the hot sun until materials arrived seven hours from the official time Electoral Commission communicated.

At Naguru polling station where former Vice President, Prof. Gilbert Bukenya votes from in Kakiri, materials arrived at 1:30pm.

The station's polling assistant, George Ejau said they were not given any explanation about the delay.

"We arrived early but materials had not arrived. But we are happy residents were patient and have voted," he said.

Prof. Bukenya told New Vision, that the delay is excusable. "I have no ill-feelings about the delay. What matters is people exercising their rights," he noted.

Bukenya asked leaders and their supporters to stay calm after elections.

"Those who are defeated should accept the results and be calm. No need for hate or demonstrations because Uganda will not end with this election. They should wait for the next election," he noted.

Other affected polling stations include Bwanika, Kabagezi and Kakiri among others.

However, the exercise has been peaceful in various areas despite of the few inconsistences.
