Voters shun polls over missing names

Most polling stations in Makindye Division started voting late due to late delivery of voting materials

Voters at Wansaso Kibuye II polling station all refused to vote when it merged the registry had names from A-M missing.

While the returning officer had allowed those with names starting with M-Z to vote, the entire electorate refused forcing the Electoral Commission officials to flee as tempers began to flare.

"They told us to come and vote at 7:00am, I came here at 6:30am because I had to work. I have been here for 4 hours, now that the ballots are here, my name is missing. We are not going to vote," said Asuman Kalyango, a resident of Kibuye.

"Voting materials have arrived late as if that is not enough, our names are missing. What is annoying, officials are not explaining to us why our names are missing. No one is going to vote till we get an explanation," said Aidah Nabiseera, an FDC party agent.

Election observers were seen seated bemused.
