Voting was halted for two hours in Hoima and Buliisa districts due to a heavy downpour that forced voters to scamper for shelter.

Voting started late due to delayed delivery of voting equipment. The heavy downpour that stopped at 2:40PM began when voting was in high gear in most polling stations in the affected areas.

Emily Kabahumuza a polling assistant at Chambers A-K polling station said re-organising the polling unit to resume voting took some time, resulting in a delay.

She said the ballot papers were kept in the nearby tent as they took shelter in the tarpaulin that was also leaking.

Water was inside the ballot boxes and during the counting polling officials had to keep water away from the ballot papers.

At Kigwera trading center polling station in Buliisa district, voting was extended up to 6:15PM to compensate for the time lost during the heavy downpour and the time lost over delayed delivery of voting equipment.

By 7:00PM counting of votes was underway.
