UPC has 40 candidates contesting for MP seats, 15 contesting for LC5, and over 100 contesting for LC3

Uganda People's Congress (UPC) party is not supporting any presidential candidate in the 2016 general election.

In his message to the press on Wednesday at the party headquarters in Kampala the party secretary general Edward Seggayi said the party was focused on the parliamentary polls.

"The party official position is we want to beef up the numerical strength of MPs in the 10th Parliament.  We want to raise number of MPs to 17, from the 10 we had in the 9th Parliament" Seggayi said.

He called upon the electorate to vote for candidates contesting under UPC ticket.

"We remind voters to get their voter location slips to ensure a smooth voting exercise" he said.

Seggayi said UPC has 40 candidates contesting for MP seats, 15 contesting for LC5, and over 100 contesting for LC3.

In 9th Parliament Forum For Democratic Change (FDC) had 34, UPC had 10, Democratic Party had 11, Justice Forum (JEEMA) had 1, Conservative Party ( CP) had 1,

With a total of 238 MPS, the 9th Parliament had 112 district women MPs, 43 independents, 10 Uganda Peoples Defense Forces (UPDF), 5 workers, 5 youths, 5 PWDS, and 11 ex officio.
