Established in 1988, the MRC/UVRI Uganda Research Unit on AIDS is an internationally recognized center of excellence for research on HIV infection and related diseases, contributing knowledge on the revolving epidemic, the evaluation of innovative health care options, treatment and prevention, and the development of health policy and practice in Africa and worldwide.

Established in 1988, the MRC/UVRI Uganda Research Unit on AIDS is an internationally recognized center of excellence for research on HIV infection and related diseases, contributing knowledge on the revolving epidemic, the evaluation of innovative health care options, treatment and prevention, and the development of health policy and practice in Africa and worldwide. The Unit's head offices are located at the Uganda Virus Research Institute- Entebbe Campus, and the main research activities in Masaka, Kalungu, Kampala and Wakiso districts, including the peri-urban areas of Entebbe. The Unit is now seeking enthusiastic individuals to fill the following positions below;

1. Clinical Officer (1 Position)

Position Code: CLINO116

Reports to: Scientist

Duty station: Kyamulibwa - Kalungu

Start Date: ASAP

Job Purpose: Runs the general care clinic for female and male study participants and their children under five, Undertakes the enrolment and follow-up research visits for participants in the chronic kidney disease study.

Qualifications & Person specifications

• Must have at least a Diploma in Clinical medicine, Health Sciences or a related field from a recognised institution.

• At least 3 years proven experience in conducting general health care consultations and research among adults and children.

• Good updated knowledge of most common pathologies seen in primary health care.

• Good interviewing and interpersonal skills and accurate in handling patient records.

• A good background of research ethics and procedures.

• Fluent in English and Luganda.

• Must be registered with the Allied Health Professional's council.

• Personal integrity, ability to learn, flexibility and concern for excellence.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

2. Nursing Officer (1 Position)

Position Code: NO216

Reports to: Scientist

Duty station: Kyamulibwa - Kalungu

Start Date: ASAP

Job Purpose: To assist in the research process and provide care to research participants.

Qualifications & Person specifications.

• At least a Diploma in Nursing, midwifery or comprehensive nursing.

• A good understanding of nursing care as it relates to management of common acute and chronic illnesses and medical emergencies.

• At least three years' experience working in a research setting

• Must have a Certificate in counselling Training in Good clinical practice (GCP) required

• Must be registered with Uganda Nurses and Midwives council.

• Personal integrity, ability to multitask, flexibility and concern for excellence
