HPV vaccination launched in Amuria

The Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination has officially been launched in Amuria District.

The vaccination nationally launched last month was officially launched in Amuria district by the state minister for relief, disaster, preparedness and refugees, Musa Ecweru.

HPV can cause cervical and other cancers including cancer of the vulva, vagina, penis, or anus. It can also cause cancer in the back of the throat, including the base of the tongue and tonsils.

Speaking during the launch of this vaccination at Kepelebyong Health Centre IV in Amuria district, Ecweru commended government for its effort in eliminating cancers from the young girls.

He called upon the electorates to vote for President Yoweri Museveni so that he completes its programs of vaccinations among others.


The acting District Health Officer (DHO) Amuria, Dr. Raymond Malinga said the HPV vaccination is going to be among the routine vaccinations that will be always conducted during out reach centres, schools and health facilities.

According to Dr. Malinga, the district is targeting to vaccinate over 50,000 children of ten years below or those from primary four below.
