Daku improved his fight record to 20 wins in 31 fights, 19, 9 knockouts and two draws.

Netherlands-based Ugandan boxer Farouk Daku is set for bigger challenges following his victory in the World Boxing Forum (WBF) super middleweight title on Saturday.

Daku beat Jozsef Karmony of Hungary to capture the vacant title on a unanimous point decision at Nakivubo on Saturday.

To the Ugandan prize fighter, the positive result opens a wide door for opportunities for bigger title call ups.

“This was a big result which opens up more opportunities in my career. After this win now I have all the opportunities of challenging for world titles like WBC (World Boxing Council) international and WBO (World Boxing Organisation),” he said.

The Netherlands-based boxer however, regretted his inability to knockout the Hungarian in the 12-round contest as he had promised earlier.

“It was not easy. I could not bring down the man because he was running. But the good thing is that I won. I just need to go back to training for a more serious challenge,” he said.

Daku improved his fight record to 20 wins in 31 fights, 19, 9 knockouts and two draws. He departs for Netherlands Wednesday.

The WBF is the second title for Daku who earlier on beat Tanzania’s Saidi Mberwa to snatch the Africa Boxing Union title in April last year.

The Ugandan prize fighter is expected back in action next month February 20 when he mounts a challenge for the Benelux super middleweight title in Amsterdam.

The Nakivubo show was organized by Malingumu Promotions in conjunction with Uganda Sports Promotion.
