Uganda plays Mali amid reports of players being unhappy about allowances

National team captain Farouk Miya has played down reports of tension within the Uganda Cranes camp, saying the team is focused on minting a result against Mali in their opening Africa Nations Championship Group D encounter in Rubavu on Tuesday.

Uganda plays Mali at 6pm (7pm Ugandan time) in the second match of the day amid reports of players being unhappy about allowances.

But Miya, during a press conference at the Aeroport Stadium in Rubavu downplayed the reports, saying that the team is focused on the match and getting results.

"We might be having different moods but what matters most is how we are prepared for the challenge and I would like to tell you that we are all ready and we have to play the match. We are focused on seeing that we get a good result in our first encounter," said Miya.

He added that though the team is basking in CECAFA glory, the challenge for the CHAN tournament is different because of the caliber of teams that they will face.

"We are a team that helps each other and plays together. We are focused on getting the required results and we will fight all the way for it. We are together all through and that is the best we can get when we are going out there to play," said Miya.
