Netball: Proscovia vows to promote young talent

Uganda's first netball player to go professional, Peace Proscovia intends to promote the game amongst the youngsters after her contract with English club, Loughborough Lightning expires.

Proscovia joined the Loughborough Lightning side late last week on a two year contract where she will be playing as the team's lead goal shooter ahead of the England Netball Superleague kicking off on January 30 in UK.

"In case my contract is not renewed, I will come back and be a role model to many youngsters in Uganda because we need to live room for them to also discover their potential," Proscovia stated.

"I would rather resign from playing netball and resort to promoting young talents and also continue with my profession as a marketer than competing for positions with them. But if given another chance to play for the UK side or any other team then I will continue with my career," she explained.

The 27-year old later added that though she misses her friends and family in Uganda.

"I miss my family and friends back at home but I also feel blessed with the love that surrounds me from teammates and management and I feel our bonding is getting stronger," she said.

Meanwhile Lightning captain, Jade Clarke commented in the Loughborough University's newsletter how excited she is working again with Proscovia and coaches Karen Atkinson and Olivia Murphy ahead of the season kicker against Yorkshire Jets late this month.
