Italian investor to set up cement factory in Karamoja

The projected annual production capacity of the factory will be between 400 and 500 million tons per year

President Yoweri Museveni has received the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the VM Wind Cement Company, Leonardo Murdaca, who called on him on Tuesday at his country home in Rwakitura, Kiruhuura district.

Leonardo Murdaca informed the President of his readiness to set up a cement and marble factory in Karamoja Sub-Region.

He said his technical team will arrive in the country in 2 weeks' time to carry out a feasibility study and construction of a factory that will offer direct employment to over 500 Ugandans.

He added that the projected annual production capacity of the factory will be between 400 and 500 million tons per year of high quality Italian type of cement.

President Museveni welcomed the investor to Uganda and asked him to also take interest in food processing as well as the construction of a granite factory.

The President further assured his guest of a ready market for the cement and marble not only here in Uganda but also in the Great Lakes Region and beyond.

Karamoja Sub-Region, which is tucked up in North Eastern Uganda, comprises of the districts of Moroto, Kaabong, Kotido, Nakapiripirit, Abim, Amudat and Napak.
