Akol orders Police to arrest nude dancers

Nude shows commonly referred to as ekimansulo have taken Kampala and its suburbs by storm.

Internal Affairs minister, Rose Akol, has directed Police to comb Kampala night clubs and bars and arrest nude dancers.

"I would like to direct District Police Commanders to make a sweep of those bars in Kampala offering strippers to the public," Akol told a plenary session on Friday morning chaired by Speaker Rebecca Kadaga.

The minister's directive came after Aruu County MP Odonga Otto raised the matter saying nude shows commonly referred to as ekimansulo have taken Kampala and its suburbs by storm.

"There are bars in Kampala in some places like Ntinda that offer "funny dancers" who are naked women. Police needs to stop this. What interventions can the ministry of internal Affairs offer?"

In 2003, Emmanuel Cardinal Wamala slammed nude show performers, fans and defenders, saying they are sick and need help. Wamala said tolerating animal-like acts heralds a bad culture of shamelessness.

"We must deplore the culture of indecent behaviour that is growing in our society. Shamelessness is a symptom of a sick society. We must guard against that loss of shame. You are aware of acts of indecency now in our society. I am afraid those who indulge in such acts are sick. Not only them but their defenders and those who watch them. They are sick and need help," Wamala said.
