Candidates can’t send a representative because the debate is only between presidential hopefuls

THE Inter-Religious Council of Uganda has received confirmation from all eight presidential candidates that they will participate in the Presidential debate scheduled for next Friday at the Kampala Serena Hotel.

Among the candidates include President Yoweri Museveni of the ruling party, Dr. Kiiza Besigye of the FDC, Independent Amama Mbabazi, Dr. Abed Bwanika of the PDP, Maj. Gen.  Benon Biraaro, Maureen Kyalya and Joseph Mabirizi.

The chairman of the organising committee Justice James Ogoola said they don't want any candidate to send a representative because the debate is only between presidential candidates.

"We agreed that all candidates will come in person and not by surrogate. It's not really us the organizers to talk about whether they will come or not" Ogoola said.

"We are satisfied as of now that we are on track and making very good preparations for a platform that will bring the face and voice of every candidate who chooses to come" he added.
