A committee was formed on Wednesday at Kampala Sheraton Hotel, to devise ways of raising funds for the financially constrained club.

After watching Express FC endure a turbulent spell in the first round of the Azam Uganda Premier League, a team of ex-players and former administrators have stepped in to resolve the club's financial troubles.

A committee was formed on Wednesday at Kampala Sheraton Hotel, to devise ways of raising funds for the financially constrained club.

"We have come out to show that we can still organise our team against all odds. You don't have to be a club chairman or president to solicit money for the club. The finance committee that we have formed today is to build a financial base and change the image of the club," former Express manager Kassim Buyondo stated.

The committee is led by renowned city lawyer and former chairman Kavuma Kabenge. The other committee members include Ali Ssendijja, John Kitenda, Patrick Kalungi, Rolland Ssaka and Wasswa Matovu.

Ssendijja previously served as welfare manager during the Meddie Ssebaggala era while Kitenda was the treasurer when Express last won the trophy in 2011/12.

Kabenge eased any concerns about the intentions of the committee.

"Our main concern is not leadership at the top.

We are ready to work with anyone for as long as they can push the team to another level," he said.

Former Express FC captain George Ssimwogerere and Godfrey Nyola are part of the group.

Muhamood Kateregga and Buyondo were tasked to coordinate fans.

"As a former Express captain, I felt the need to attend this meeting. We seriously need to put our house in order otherwise the team will be no more. I am here to help on the technical aspect of the club," said Ssimwogerere.
