Thugs rob Kawempe traders over sh11m

Thugs killed a boda boda cyclist identified as Darius Atukwatse a resident of Kazo Central, who is also a pastor

 

A group of unknown thugs on Monday night attacked Kawempe business people and made way with over sh11m.

 

The incident took place in Lugoba-Kawempe at around 8:30pm when traders dealing in maize produce were attacked as they were leaving for their places of abode.

 

The thugs also killed a boda boda cyclist identified as Darius Atukwatse a resident of Kazo Central, who is also a pastor at God's Grace Ministry Katooke-Nansana.

 

Atukwatse was hit by a stray bullet that was shot by the thugs as they made way with the money.

 

Kawempe police station boss Hashim Kasinga confirmed the robbery and the death.

 

"Robberies and killings are rampant in this area but we have failed to agree with the LC1 committee of Lugoba-Kawempe on erecting a police post in the area," he said.

 

He added that police investigations had commenced into the incident and asked the residents to help in identifying the criminals.

 

According to the eyewitness the thugs were three in number who trailed the vehicle carrying the traders registration number UAK 454P from Jamira Mugisha and her husband Hajji Mugisha Ssalongo's shop in Kawempe.

 

The thugs used a motorcycle registration number UEA 893H to trail the couple and in Lugoba where they robbed the traders on gun point.

 

"When we approached the parking space in Lugoba, the thugs came towards us and one of them came to my door asking for my bag. I tried to resist but when he flashed a gun at me and my husband told me to give them the bag which and they left," Mugisha narrated.
