Uganda is determined to impress at the World University Netball Championship this year.

Uganda last participated in the championship in 2012 in South Africa.

According to Association of Uganda University Sports (AUUS) president Peninah Kabenge, the association will send a team to the event due to be hosted in Florida, USA.

"We have planned for the championship and hope to do well. We have a strong team," Kabenge told New Vision.

Kabenge's confidence stems from the fact that AUUS had a representative at the just concluded Netball World Cup in Sydney, Australia.

Ruth Meeme, who turns out for Makerere University Business School (MUBS), was among the She Cranes' best performers at the World Cup.

Kampala International University student Susan Atino and Nkumba's Susan Mukala, with invaluable experience, are the other stars on the team.

Apart from the netball championship, AUUS will also participate in a number of international tournaments throughout the year. These include the 20th World University Cross Country in Italy, All Africa University Games due July, World University Championships in Miami and the FISU Forum due April in France.

That is aside from the local events that will include basketball, rugby, and football.
