Tororo residents warned against frustrating investors

Tororo Resident District Commissioner Martin Orochi has warned residents against frustrating investors in the name of compensation.

Orochi said it has become a common phenomenon across the entire district where some leaders connive with either investors to frustrate the land owners or with residents to resist investors from implementing their development plans.

"I have heard a scenario where residents of Magola and Iyolwa sub counties have frustrated the construction of the new power line extension to Kenya and am also investigating a matter where some leaders have connived with civil aviation authorities to grab people's land near Tororo air field,'' Orochi said.

Orochi made the remarks on Tuesday at Tororo district chambers while chairing a meeting with residents who were compensated by Uganda Sukulu phosphate industrial complex to allow the commencement of the mining process.

The meeting attended by about 30 affected residents with members of the district land committee was co-chaired by the chief administrative officer Vitalis Oswan.
