Mbabazi supporters remanded again

Eleven supporters of independent presidential candidate Amama Mbabazi have again been remanded to Ntungamo.

The suspects are facing charges of grievous body harm and malicious damage. They all deny the charges.

They are alleged to have committed the crimes on December 13, 2015 during the clashes between supporters of NRM party and Go Forward in Ntungamo Municipality, Ntungamo district.

Seven of the 11 suspects:  Benon Turyamureba,  Elia Mayinja, Abudulla Kasajja, Mutebi Jamir, George Sebatindira, Asadu Semakura and Frank Kabari were granted bail of sh200,000 cash but could not be released because they are facing others charges in the same court.

The remaining four suspects- Batemyeto Frank, Onzima Ramathan, Lawrence King Mugabe and Nduga Rogers are those who were arrested recently. They only took plea and denied the charges before Ntungamo Magistrate grade one magistrate Richard Ndangwa.

They could not apply for bail as their lawyers and those to stand surety for them were not in court by the time they appear this morning.

Magistrate Ndangwa said the suspects could not be released because of what he called ineffective legal representation.
