Halem'mana's death Sunday night comes just four months after that of bishop Emeritus of Fort-Portal

The Catholic Church has lost Bishop Barnabas Halem'mana, Emeritus of Kabale Diocese.

Halem'mana's death Sunday night comes just four months after that of bishop Emeritus of Fort-Portal who passed away in September last year.

According  to information from the Catholic Secretariat at Nsambya, a requiem mass will be held at Lubaga cathedral on Tuesday at 10am, after which the body will be transported to Kabale Catholic diocese where he will laid to rest in the Cathedral on Wednesday.         

Halem'mana became bishop for Kabale diocese taking over from bishop Nkalanga.

He was among the 12 bishops consecrated by Pope Paul VI  when he visited Uganda in July 31, 1969.

He was consecrated together with Bishop Edward Albert Baharagate, the former bishop of Hoima diocese, at Kololo on August 1, 1969.
 
Halem'mana hailed from Busanza Kinanira Parish in the presently Kisoro district.

He was ordained a priest on December 7, 1958. His first appointment was at Mutolere Parish. Before his consecration as bishop he worked as editor of Ageteraine News Paper for some years.

As Msgr. later \he went for further studies and graduated in Canon Law. Upon his return he was appointed the Secretary General of Uganda Episcopal Conference where he worked for years.

He served as bishop of Kabale diocese for 25 years before his retirement on July 15, 1994.
