Before his final arrest in April this year, Corporal Martin Engwau Police no. 45581 attached to Tororo Central police station used to lend out his gun to a group of his criminal friends led by Salim Ali Yahaya and Musa Muku Donku, part of a gang the Uganda Police force is linking to the murder of prominent Islamic clerics and politicians in Eastern part of Uganda.

In April, a highly specialized team of police was able to crack down on the gang also linked to the Allied Democratic Front leader Jamil Mukulu, arresting all the key suspects who were involved in the brutal murders.

Investigations by police indicate that cell led Yahaya popularly also known as Commander participated in a number of high profile assassinations and robbery missions in the Eastern region.

"They started off as a robbery group and our investigations reveal that they hired a gun from Engwau and later disappeared with the same gun that they finally used in a number of robberies and murders in the Eastern region Police spokesperson Fred Enanga said.
