The Mbarara-based fighter is apparently preparing for his first international meeting against Kenya's Martin Achibe slated for today (Thursday) at Mbarara Mall basement ground in Mbarara district.

Mbaata has been undergoing vigorous drills at Mbarara Mall training wing, under the instruction of his coach Hassan Mohamed Meddie, and has shown readiness for the New Year 's Eve fight.

"I can't wait for this chance to write my name on the international scene. I am well prepared because I know this is my time to shine and I will not let it go," he said.

The non-title five-round Bantam weight bout has already been commissioned by the Uganda Kick Boxing Federation, whose launch early this month was graced by federation president Hassan Ssekirime and secretary Charles Wandera Mugoya.

At the launch, Ssekirime spoke of Mbaata's swift improvement and development into the game.

"We are privileged to have one other promising talent in Western Uganda (Mbarara) bacause we already have Dan Okiror (Eastern), Eric Onen (Gulu) and Brenda Masenda (Lira) and others.

"I have even forwarded his (Mbaata) name to Minister [of State for sports Charles] Bakkabulindi," said Ssekirime.

This will be Mbaata's second major fight in just three months, after beating Ronnie Zziwa a.k.a Tong Po in September.
