King Oyo excites Makerere University students

It was joy, elattion and fanfare on Saturday at Makerere University in Kampala, when Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV met the students of Tooro Under their Umbrella Makerere University Tooro Students Assocation

It was joy, elattion and fanfare on Saturday at Makerere University in Kampala, when Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV met the students of Tooro Under their Umbrella Makerere University Tooro Students Assocation.


Clad in a black suit, white shirt teamed with a blue tie, his arrival was punctuated with intonations of allegiance in Lutooro, 'nitwanniriza Empanga ya Tooro' (let us welcome the King of Tooro).

He was in company of Kingdom officials including Premier Bernard Tungwako, and aunt Princess Elizabeth Bagaya.

It was the first King in the history of Tooro kingdom to visit Makerere University ever since the institution was formed in 1922.

While addressing the students, King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru urged them to respect cultural values adding that it gives a firm foundation and identity that may open invaluable windows of opportunity in their journey of life.

He also advised them to believe in themselves, be disciplined and always take time and meditate on who they want to be, pointing out a famous quoter by Nora Roberts:

"If you don't go after what you want, you'll never have it. If you don't ask, the answer is always no. If you don't step forward, you're always in the same place." Oyo explained

He however warned students of the dangers of drug abuse and HIV/AIDS saying everyone has one life and can only live it once.

Oyo hailed Makerere University administration for creating a Western campus in Tooro Kingdom which has helped people in Tooro region access quality education.

King Oyo and the Vice Chancellor Makerere University, Prof. John Ddumba Ssentamu, signed a pact aimed at strengthening good relationship between the two Institutions.

He later toured the school of food and technology, planted a tree and crowned the visit by serving the students with cake.
