The Tororo district resident district commissioner (RDC) has called on skilled farmers to share their agricultural expertise with their colleagues who lack them.

“You have joined us to fight poverty. Extend the knowledge you have to other farmers,” said Martin Orochi.

Orochi was officiating at the National Livestock Resources Research Institute, (NaLIRRI) Annual Review and Planning Meeting at the institute in Tororo this week.

The review brought on researchers from NaLIRRI, academics from Makerere University, farmers, and officials from the ministry of agriculture, animal industry and fisheries.

On sharing knowledge, Margaret Ogaba, a bee farmer from Kitgum and managing director Jjllima Holdings Ltd, said she had already trained bee framers in honey harvesting and processing in Kotido, Kitgum, Gulu and Kabarole districts.

Halid Kirunda, the acting director NaLIRRI said the institute was working at improving the productivity and production of the livestock sector.

One of the institute’s products is silage feed for cattle made from maize.

The institute is one of six under the National Agriculture Research Organization (NARO).
