Ugandan politicians are moving with the times. They are on Twitter, on Facebook and Instagram, among others. But can their ‘likes’ and ‘shares’ translate into votes? John Semakula and Carol Natukunda explore the issue.



Just after the former Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi had announced his presidential bid, there were two trending hashtags on Twitter: The #NoThreat, for the President Yoweri Museveni’s supporters and the #Goingforward for Amama Mbabazi’s camp.

The former allies both have active handles on Twitter and Facebook. Their followers 'like', share and retweet their posts and pages.

And with 2016 drawing closer, the political debate on social media is getting stormier than ever before . . .
