Govt kicks off 2016/17 budget consultations

The ministry of finance, planning, economic and development has released a time table for national budget consultations across the country that begins today August 31 up to Sept 11

The ministry of finance, planning, economic and development has released a time table for national budget consultations across the country that begins today August 31 up to Sept 11.


According to the director of finance, Kenneth Mugambe the consultation is aimed at involving citizens' input in the budget process for next financial year 2016/2017.

Mugambe explained that government is implementing the Public Finance and Management Act 2015 which was passed by Parliament to ensure that the national budget framework paper is produced by December 31 and the final national budget is approved by May 31 unlike in the past Parliament had to pass the budget in September.

Today's consultation meetings are held in four regions.
In eastern the meeting is at Sunset Hotel in Jinja and the districts that are participating include Namayingo, Bukedea, Jinja, Kibuku and Butaleja.

Central region consultation takes place at Hotel Brovad involving districts; Rakai, Masaka, Ssembabule, Kalangala and Lyantonde.

As for mid-western the meetings are held at Hoima Resort Hotel and participants are from Bulisa, Masindi, Kiboga, Hoima, Kibaale and Kyankwanzi.

In northern region the consultations will take place at Acholi Inn Hotel in Gulu district and participants will be coming from Adjumani, Moyo, Yumbe, Kitgum, Lamwo, Kiryadongo and Pader.
 
Other subsequent meetings will be held at Mt. Elgon Hotel in Mbale, Lake View Hotel in Mbarara, Mountains of the Moon in Fort-Portal, Hotel Margarita in Lira and Mbale Resort Hotel in their respective dates with participants from different districts.

The Ridar Hotel meeting scheduled for Sept 6-8 in Seeta, Mukono will attract participants from Luwero, Nakaseke, Kayunga, Buvuma and Mukono.

The consultations will involve participants from all the 112 districts in the country.
