PAKISTAN is considering Uganda as the second African country after Egypt to get a dual citizenship status, the Pakistan Consul to Uganda Dr. Boney Katatumba has revealed.

"Pakistan is in advanced stages of including Uganda on a list of 16 other countries to benefit from dual citizenship to improve the cordial relationship between the two countries" Katatumba said.

He made the remarks during Pakistanis' 68th Independence Day celebrations at Garden City in Kampala, over the weekend. He said Pakistan recognizes Uganda as a big partner in all spheres of life.

Katatumba advised Ugandan traders to use the opportunity when it comes and apply for citizenship to enjoy the benefits as Pakistani nationals.

He rekindled the Pakistanis’ call to promote peaceful co-existence between Ugandas and the Pakistan community in Uganda.

State Minister for International Affairs Okello Oryem hailed the cordial relations existing between the two countries and urged Pakistanis to use the prevailing peace to invest more into the country.

"Uganda's national development priorities are infrastructure development, energy and agro-processing; Pakistan community should invest in areas of pharmaceuticals, construction, Information Technology, and hospitality sectors among others," Oryem said.

He paid tribute to Pakistan's independence freedom fighters and patriots who sacrificed their lives for a better Pakistan, which today is one of the fastest growing economies of the world.

"Pakistan freedom fighters and patriots who shed blood in their quest for independence, provided inspiration to African independence struggles, including Uganda," Oryem said.

The chairman of the Pakistan Association of Uganda Shahid Alvi said the working relations between Uganda and Pakistan has facilitated impressive development programs in both countries and also the trade sector.

"We appreciate the understanding, support and corporation the Ugandan nationals have rendered to us. I only urge Ugandans to use the prevailing relations to export more finished goods to Pakistan," Shahid said.

He pledged continued corporation and support from the Pakistan people living here especially in agriculture, health tourism, business and technical sectors.
