KCCA to sensitize public on building plans

As a way of curbing fraud in the directorate of physical planning, Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has organized an open engagement with the community to discuss  building plans and designs befitting the city.

The director physical planning KCCA, Moses Atwine, during a press conference at the City Hall, Wednesday explained that the authority is experiencing incidents in which imposters are extorting money from the public claiming to assist approve their plans.

He revealed that KCCA, through the Physical Planning Clinic slated for August 24 -28, at the City Hall gardens will be able to inform the public on how to apply for a building plan, submission of plans and the process of acquiring plans.

Atwine also revealed that KCCA, since 2014 been able to clear a back log of 2,500 building plans, and deferred 4,267 plans which were left behind by the then KCC.

Those are part of the 6,827 building plans which were submitted to KCC.

He warned that KCCA will be inspecting, closing and prosecuting owners of buildings which did not comform to their building planner’s standards.

KCCA has severally warned owners of commercial buildings in the city to ensure that all set up structures have the minimum requirements like road reserves, keeping off wetlands and under power cables and diverting of building plans.

On some of the dilapidated and uninhabitable structures, Atwine said that KCCA has issued notices to owners to develop them, or they face demolition.
