The suspects in custody are John Bwaniika (27), a resident of Kabonera village and Robert Sseremba (29) of Kakooma village both in Kakuuto Sub-county.

It is alleged that the duo broke into the house of Maria Magana, a resident of Kakoma village, gang raped her and robbed her of sh300, 000.

Magana was alone in the house at the time of the incident that occurred on Friday last week at 2am.

According to Police, Constantine Zawadi, her immediate neighbour who responded to the alarm found Magana lying unconscious in a pool of blood. He said that Magana made a loud alarm during the scuffle which compelled them to disappear.

Residents rushed her to a dispensary for urgent medical attention and reported the matter to police which went on to pursue the suspects.

Later, Magana gained her consciousness and managed to identify her attackers. Sseremba was arrested from his house that very night while Bwanika the following day.

She said the suspects rapped her in different turns because she was too weak to defend herself from the attackers. She explained that they hit her on the head with a hummer before they disappeared leaving her unconscious.

ASP Nelson Sooma, the District Police Commander confirmed the incident and the duo’s arrest saying they are still in custody at Kabonera Police post pending investigations.

He said that the victim underwent medical examination that proved rape and a file SD/02/11/07/14 was opened against the suspects.

He said the suspects are likely to face charges of aggravated rape, attempted murder and theft adding that they are still waiting for a conclusive medical report to attach on their file before they appear in court.

However, the accused admitted to robbing Magana of the said money but denied the allegations of rape saying the matter was exaggerated by their accuser.

Sooma attributed the high crime rate in Rakai communities to drug abuse adding that police has launched a mega operation to crackdown all marijuana dealers.
