Samalie Muwanga Kisakye, 69, mother of Isaiah Katumwa, Uganda’s saxophone connoisseur has died.
According to reports, the 69-year-old died Wednesday morning at her home in Mukono.
“I am really sad to say that my dearest mum whom I love dearly passed away this morning, I am grateful to God for her life,” Katumwa tweeted.
Speaking on phone to New Vision, Katumwa said: “Mum had pressure and later she developed heart failure, all the treatment at Nakasero Hospital has been successful and we were waiting for her to be stable but unfortunately she has gone. I will feed you with more details later I am still driving.”

His mother played both roles in his life; her own as mother as well as that meant to be played by his absentee father, Jackson Katumwa.
“I celebrate my mother every day because I know that she paid a price I cannot repay. When people see me play my saxophone, they do not know that there is someone who sacrificed her world to watch me succeed,” said Katumwa in an interview with Flair Magazine.
He described his relationship with his mother as a unique bond that came about before he was born. Katumwa stayed in his mother’s womb for 12 months instead of the biologically expected nine months.
They do not know why it happened, but in the mystery, both mother and son developed an inexplicable attachment.
“I knew the name I would give my son before he was born because I spent a lot of time praying during that time. The pain was unbearable as I carried him for 12months, I do not have a nick name for him because Isaiah was a God given name,” said his mother in an interview with Vision Group’s Flair Magazine in June 2013.
She told the writer: “There is no greater reward than that of a child loving you as much you love them. I know that my son loves me,”
