THREE students have been confirmed dead after fire gutted a dormitory at Mbale Comprehensive High School on Tuesday night.

The three have been identified as Eric Emoit, Isaac Makado Isaac (both in senior one) and a senior two student only identified as Isaac.

Two other students were rushed to a health centre a few metres from the school with serious injuries.

According to Alex Kabole, a survivor, the blaze began at around 9pm on Tuesday night while the students were asleep.

The students were all boy scouts who had just returned from an outing and were exempted from night preps to get some rest.

Police is still trying to establish the cause of the deadly fire but according to students, the fire could have been the work of seven senior six students who threatened to retaliate after they were suspended from the school recently.

Police barred the press from seeking comment from school authorities as investigations continue.
