Student dies after lorry overturns during field trip

ONE student of Kikolongo Seed Secondary School, in Malongo Sub-County Lwengo District died on the spot and several are in critical condition after the Fuso Fighter registration number UAP 665C they were travelling in was involved in accident at Kikolongo Church compound 1km from the school on Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Kyansimire Joan aged 21 a senior four student whose parents reside in Malongo, Lwengo District.
The 99 students were travelling to Rwemabara Tin Scheme located in Lyantonde District for a field study trip when the incident happened.
The injured students were referred to Lyantonde-Kasambya Hospital in critical condition.

Some of the injured students were identified as Rukundo Elly, Mwanje Fred, Namisanvu Noeline, Sandra Nakafuma, and Prossy Nabasumba among others.
The school PTO chairman Ndaaza Deziderio told New Vision that the school executive passed a resolution not to transport students using lories but Sserwanja Joseph, the Kikolongo head teacher persisted.
The Lwengo District traffic officer Nanteza Edith confirmed that the students who were injured the most were the ones standing at the back of the vehicle when it overturned.
Last year, over 7 students of Seke SS in Kinoni Town died when the driver tried to escape from traffic officers when ferrying students who were returning from football competitions in Mbilizi.
