40 inspirational Ugandan women recognized

FORTY inspirational women including Vision Group’s Susan Nsibirwa have been recognized for their unsung heroism. 

The women were also recognized for exhibiting unique character by relentlessly making a difference in their communities irrespective of the meagre resources at their disposal. 

Speaking at a community dialogue under the Slum Women Economic Empowerment programme and launch of the Inspirational Women of Uganda Directory at CEDA international head offices in Kawempe, Syda Bumba the former gender labour and social development minister observed the need for mentorship of the young people to become entrepreneurs. 

“We need projects which can increase economic opportunities for single mothers by equipping them with key entrepreneurship and employment skills and social life skills to enable them confidently negotiate life options,” she said. 

This she said will help them to establish a support system for peer mentoring with the community. 

“Mentors guide the women through an innovative curriculum in social economic empowerment, including practical skills to design and manage sustainable income generating activities in their communities,” she added.

The dialogue created a platform through which the single mothers actively engaged with role models as a source of inspiration in pursuit of their planned careers while the directory highlighted the success stories of different women in different areas that have impacted their communities. 

Hajjat Rhema Kasule the president CEDA International said the directory will act as an education tool that will be attributed to secondary schools, higher institutions of learning, private and government institutions and key NGOs focusing on youth and women empowerment. 

She said that they will continue to identify, invest and bring visibility to the youth by unleashing their leadership and entrepreneurship potential to transform their lives. 

Among those recognized are, Vision Group’s Susan Nsibirwa, Grace Nanyonga, Prudence Ukkonika, Zamzama Nagujja, Lillian Keene Mugerwa, Justine Nakazi, Cissy Kagaba, Member of Parliament Emma Boona and Benedicta Nanyonga. 

Others are Prof Florence Mirembe, Sarah Bagalaaliwo, Patricia Basazza Wasswa, Dr Gladys Kalema Zikusoka, Betty Kamya, Allen Asimwe, Ahumuza Proscovia Bazira among others.
