Jinja Golf club’s Gross player Ronald ‘King’ Bukenya on Thursday took a slender lead when he carded 73 on day one of the 7th edition of the Eskom Golf Gross group.

The deadlocked star produced an Eagle in hole number 8 then birdied in 4th,5th and 12th ,beating off his closest challenger and clubmate Abbey Bagalana and Ronald Otile who both carded 73 .

‘’I have to play a regular game today and have fun if I am to maintain and win today’s title,’’said Bukenya .

The 2012 champion Adolf Muhumuza from Tooro club could only manage a score of 83 as he fell off the leading park after felting on bunkers in 3rd, 12th and 17th holes .

The winner of this category win a one year sponsorship from Eskom Uganda limited.

A record of Over 170 amateurs [subsidiary groups] have entered the fight to tee off on Saturday .Meanwhile last year’s winner Ian Odokonyero took a giant step towards defending his title when he carded 68 .

The 28-year old was followed by team mate Fred Wanzala who carded 70.Over 19 Professional Golfers are competing in the Jinja show.

Minister John Byabagambi, Jim Muhwezi, Amanya Mushega and Union president Kilyowa Kiwanuka are some of the high profile golfers expected to tee off on Saturday.

Tournament secretary Edson Kasaija is aware that his team will cope up with time for everyone to participate.

‘’Its our first time to handle such a big number but we shall embrace it,’’said Kasaija.
