Kabumba said the Basongora Kingdom starts from Rwimi River to Nyakatonzi, Rwehingo. The Basongora mainly inhabited the plains , while the Bakonzo and the Banyabindi lived in the mountains.

Sources said the Bakonzo, who launched the Rwenzururu campaign against Toro Kingdom, came into the country from Congo in 1930s. The Basongora have existed for over 1200 years, according to the King Kabuumba.

“I am very sad indeed that the Bakonzo came and killed the Basongora , who are original inhabitants in their own land. How can you kill a person who has given you food and land to settle on ?” Kabuumba asked.

The Banyabindi elder, Joseph Katebalirwe said they were displaced from the mountains by the Bakonzo, following the Rwenzururu struggle against Toro Kingdom. Toro Kingdom boundary formerly used to cover the whole of Kasese.
