KALUNGU - One person died on spot Tuesday night, while three others were rushed to Masaka hospital where they are nursing multiple fractures following the fatal accident involving a passenger bus and a Fuso lorry.

The injured were identified as Nuton Atwine, a prison officer attached to Luzira Upper prison; Emmanuel Katagala, a teacher in Mbarara and Mohamed Bantu, the driver of the Global bus who resides in Makindye-Kampala.

The injured sustained multiple fractures, whereas Wilson Bukenya, the lorry driver and his turn boy, Didas Isimire, said that it was only God's grace to survive with minor injuries.

Deo Kweyamba, the officer in charge of traffic Kalungu district, said that the accident involved a Global company bus travelling from Mbarara to Kampala and a Fuso lorry that was loaded with merchandise heading to Kisoro.

He said the accident occurred at around 10:00pm in Lwera swampy area, a few kilometers before Lukaya town on the Kampala-Masaka highway.

Police preliminary investigations indicate that the driver of the speeding bus veered from his side of the road and crashed into the lorry while trying to overtake other vehicles.

The woman's body was taken to Masaka hospital mortuary for postmortem while the vehicles were towed to Lukaya police.
