Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi has urged enterprises to use Information Communication Technology (ICTs) in their quest to grow.

“Optimal utilization of ICTs is a driver of social and economic growth in today’s information age. ICTs are an essential pillar of growth, contributing to an emergence of new products and services, increased job creation and transformation of work routines,” he said.

Mbabazi made the remarks on Friday night while launching One Africa—a business information portal featuring a business listing platform, mobile apps, micro-jobs platform and a mobile re-loadable VISA in Kampala.

“As government, we are aware that it will not be enough to develop ICT human resources alone. The population, especially the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) which are the major producers in our economy, must access, use and benefit from ICTs”

To enable this, Mbabazi said government has invested in a national backbone infrastructure and e-government project through the ministry of ICT to ensure that high bandwidth data connection is available to all major towns of Uganda at reasonable rates.

Mbabazi also said that harnessing the transformative power of ICTs will feature prominently in the second five-year national development plan.

Yusuf Kayiwa, Africa One’s business development executive said the launched solutions will help people to utilize the latest technologies in their day- to- day lives and also link up businesses, job seekers and employers to many opportunities.

“Africa one will boost the flow of information, increase efficiency, provide access to new markets and services in addition to creating new opportunities for income generation,” Kayiwa said.
