Tight contest for this year's Eskom Golf title

With last year's dominant winners Willy Kitata and ladies Golfer Flavia Namakula off for European tours , a tight contest will be expected at the 9 hole Jinja Golf club this Thursday where over 30 Gross golfers will be teeing off in a two day show

JINJA - With last year's dominant winners Willy Kitata and ladies Golfer Flavia Namakula off for European tours , a tight contest will be expected at the 9 hole Jinja Golf club this Thursday where over 30 Gross golfers will be teeing off in a two day show .

With 2012 winner Adolf Muhumuza and his brother Lawrence Muhenda expected to lead the Tooro club group , fireworks will no doubt bring in more competition from Jinja based Ronald Bukenya ,Ismail Mahmood and Abbey Bagalana .

The competition will be even be made more stiffer with bigger players like Kampala based Phillip Kasozi, Joseph Mawejje, Richard Baguma and Ronald Rugumayo to mention but for a few, who will all be vying for the Eskom golf title and a one year sponsorship package from with in East Africa and a Golf kitty of worth USD5,000 [sh12.5m].

Jinja Golf captain Joseph Nkuruziza revealed that Jinja club has put in place arrangements that will enable all Golfers tee off and finish on time .

'We have organised profesional golfers as marshals who will help us keep time on Saturday as we expect a stable-ford game for the subsidiary groups on Saturday. Though its a little dry these days in Jinja , we have laboured to water the greens on the daily basis and surely we hope that their conditions will enable us maintain their conditions as we also prepare for the Inter region and Onito Open later this month at the same course , 'said Nkuruziza.

Eskom Managing Director Nokwanda Mngeni said that this year's Eskom title is expected to be more competitive than ever.

'We have had past winners from Jinja ,Tooro and Entebbe club in the past and this has generated an awareness that anyone can win it this time. We expect to have a new champion this time because last year's winner Willy Kitata is out of the country,'said Nokwanda.

The Eskom Corporate brand head Simon Kasyate revealed that the shs 100m injected will cater for 22 professionals , a host of gross players and over 120 amateur players who will tee off this Saturday on the closing day.
