IVAN Byekwaso’s last minute efforts to secure sponsorship for the World Body Building Championship in Slovakia weren't in vain as he grabbed a silver medal at the annual showpiece event.

The 31 year old muscle man managed to travel for the championship at the last minute courtesy of a $3000 donation from President Yoweri Museveni.

Having secured the travel visa from Nairobi on June 19, Byekwaso had only managed to get sh2m out of the sh7m needed for travel, upkeep and accommodation by June 25.

Brother Ronnie of ETM International Church offered the athlete the sh2m which wasn’t enough. But the late acquisition of the money from President Museveni within 24 hours of asking helped the bodybuilder represent Uganda in Nitra City where he didn’t disappoint.

The Gold medal eluded him by just one point but the silver earns him a ticket to the lucrative World Amateur Body Building Olympiad in the USA in November.

The president and founder of the International Natural Body Building Association (INBA WORLD), Denny Kakos, hailed Byekwaso for showcasing the best entertainment and talent in the competition.

“INBA looks forward to working with Uganda as a result of what we have witnessed,”

It was the third time the USPA body builder of the year was gauging himself with the rest of the world’s muscle men.
